Virginia L. Stuckert's Obituary
STUCKERT, Virginia L., age 78, of Waynesville, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2020 at her residence.
Virginia graduated from Waynesville High School in 1960, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in education from Miami University in Oxford, class of ’64. Over the years, she continued her education and ultimately earned a Master’s Degree in education from Miami University. A teaching career spanning a combined 32 years, Virginia taught 4th grade at Holbrook Elementary in Lebanon from 1968 to 1994, making the move to the newly built Donovan Elementary in 1994, and officially retiring in 1996. In 2002, she received the Distinguished Service Award by the Lebanon City Schools, Hall of Fame.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma International Society for Key Women Educators from 1981 to 2000. In 1996, Virginia joined the Warren County Retired Teachers and served as secretary for many years.
Virginia was an active and faithful member of the Waynesville United Methodist Church. She was a vital part of the prayer ministry for both the church congregation and the wider community, empowering people to pray by making them aware of circumstances. She would offer her own prayers, often encourage them to pray themselves, and help others build their faith in God. In addition, she was instrumental in leading the adult Sunday school class for several years, often being the first person at church every Sunday. She also led a women’s Bible study on Monday mornings, supported and attended the annual Prayer Retreat, was involved in the women’s bake sale during the Sauerkraut Festival, and sang in the church choir for several years.
She volunteered as the secretary of the Waynesville Food Pantry/Community Aid Board. Described by one board member, “for most of the past 20 years, Virginia has been the stabilizing and organizational talent behind our community, taking care of those less fortunate. She was known for sending thank-you notes to every contributor, every time.”
Outgoing, humble, caring, and giving, Virginia enjoyed laughing and could be adventurous. She greatly enjoyed her cats, spending time with her nieces and nephews, and traveling with her teacher friends over the years. She especially enjoyed her trips to Europe and one memorable trip to Israel with her church. With an extensive collection of books, she also loved to read. She collected Precious Moments figurines as well, mainly from her travels. She also enjoyed politics and political discussions with those willing to partake in dialogue. Among many things, she will be remembered for being early everywhere she went, how much she loved kids, and her dedication to serving others in the spirit of God.
She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Carrie Stuckert. She is survived by her brother Loren (Sherry) Stuckert; two sisters Beverly Pawley and Roberta (John) Keating; and 10 nieces and nephews Rob Stuckert, Loren Stuckert II, Taylor Stuckert, Joni Marie Stuckert, Chuck Stuckert, Kathleen Keener, Eric Pawley, Melissa Vaught, Christine Juhl, and Michelle Keating.
Graveside service will be held 2 PM Friday, April 24 at Miami Cemetery in Corwin. Pastor Jason Sharp and Brian Blankenship will be officiating. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family. If desired, contributions may be made to the Waynesville Food Pantry P. O. Box 653, Waynesville, OH 45068 and/or the Wayne Township Fire Department, Inc., P. O. Box 264, Waynesville, OH 45068. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
