Walter E. Marconette Jr.'s Obituary
MARCONETTE JR., Walter E., age 70, of Miamisburg, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties.
Walter graduated from Piqua Central High School, class of '70, and proudly earned a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from The Ohio State University, class of '74. He retired in 2022 as a financial analyst for Kettering Health Network for 20 years. He often presented the Vice Presidents with a financial report that was always considered exceptional. He took great pride in his work and had a tremendous work ethic.
He loved literature, and collecting books became a passion of his. He especially loved philosophy, science fiction, history, and non-fiction. His favorite author was Stephen King, but he enjoyed books involving Europe, wars, space, astronauts, and space stations. He was so interested in space that he followed John Glenn's course when traveling to the moon. His passion for literature carried over to being an avid writer. He would create masterpieces from his writing. As an extremely intelligent gentleman, he was a self-taught computer guru. He read directions for everything, which helped him be able to fix items for family members. He was always very detail-oriented and meticulous with everything he owned.
His hobbies included cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes football team, attending concerts, and traveling with his wife. He thoroughly enjoyed music and attended many concerts, even globally. One of his favorite memories was traveling with his wife. They took a trip to London, Paris; the highlight was a Mediterranean cruise. They loved visiting Las Vegas and took an unforgettable trip to San Francisco, Monterey, Big Sur, and the 16-mile loop. For many years, they traveled to Cape Cod as a peaceful getaway.
Walter always looked forward to spending time with his family around the holidays. Every year they would get together on Christmas Eve and celebrate. The highlight was his sister's, Debbie, cookies she would make. He was a kind, thoughtful gentleman with a dry humor. He was very proud of the life he had with his wife. He would gladly spend all day with her, talking, listening to music, and being in each other's presence. Among many things, he would be remembered for setting the bar very high and being the measure of what a man should be in every way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Colleen "Pat" Marconette; Teri's daughter, Brandi Self; and his sister-in-law Judy Marconette. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Teri; Teri's children, Bryan (Kris) Wilson and Karrie (Jacob) Whitsel; six grandchildren, Connor Whitsel, Jackson Whitsel, Eli Wilson, Kenzie Self, Olivia Murphy, and Elaina Murphy; one brother, Jeffery Marconette; sister, Debbie (Phil) Wead; two nephews, Jeffery Marconette Jr. and Michael Wead; three nieces, Michele (Matt) Harrison, Christine Grace, and Penny Miller; numerous great-nephews and great-nieces; and two lifelong best friends, Cliff (Julie) Gold and Greg Eyerman.
