Wanda Mae Cherryholmes' Obituary
CHERRYHOLMES, Wanda Mae (Fairchild), age 86, of Waynesville, passed away Monday, September 11, 2023, at Kettering Medical Center.
Wanda graduated from Harveysburg High School, class of '55. She had an extensive collection of porcelain dolls and Cherished Teddy figurines. More recently, she started collecting recipes and looked forward to trying them out. Autumn would find her canning green beans, tomatoes, pickles, strawberry jam, and apple butter. She was an excellent cook. She was well known for her macaroni and potato salads and, especially, her fried chicken. She was a fantastic cake decorator and created numerous ones for family and friends. She made wedding cakes and was very proud of the anniversary cake she created for the Waynesville National Bank. She enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, word searches, and games on her iPad. She also liked working on puzzles and creating Shutterfly books for the family.
As a loving, understanding, and uplifting lady, she was the joy in many people's lives. Family was everything to Wanda. She looked forward to all the traditional family gatherings of birthdays and holidays with her siblings. Sunday dinners were also one of the highlights. Every Christmas, she had a tradition of buying her daughters perfume, and then she would wrap them up and say that her husband, George, bought it for them. The whole family took two memorable trips together. One to the Hawaiian Islands and the second on a cruise to Alaska. She was very proud of meeting and marrying George and having a wonderful, long, fulfilled marriage. It also gave her great pride that by meeting George, they had two beautiful daughters, grandchildren, and even a great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert "Hub" Fairchild and Glenna "Sally" Elisabeth Fairchild; one brother, Lester (Pat) Fairchild; one sister, Anna (Glenn) Pelphrey; and one brother-in-law, Larry Titus. She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, George Russell Cherryholmes; two daughters, Shara (Scott) Stroschen and Glenda Cherryholmes; two grandchildren, Ciara Nicole (Jake) Herberger and Kyle Scott (Lily) Stroschen; one great-grandson, Walker Reed Herberger; two brothers, Ronald (Barbara) Fairchild and Joe (Terry) Fairchild; two sisters, Rita Titus and Sharon (Ron) Lane; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, September 16, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Life Celebrant Brian Bennett will be officiating. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery in Corwin. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM on Friday, September 15, at the funeral home.
