Wayne P. Sharpe's Obituary
SHARPE, Wayne P., age 79, of Wilmington, formerly of Waynesville, passed away Monday, July 31, 2023.
Wayne retired in 2006 after over 25 years of service as a tool maker for Dayton Progress in West Carrolton. He was a member for over 47 years at Lebanon Free Will Baptist Church. As a gentleman with a happy-go-lucky personality, he had a quick wit and was always nice to everyone he interacted with. He had a massive sense of humor and was known for being a prankster and even playing jokes on the grandkids. He raised horses for harness racing for many years and thoroughly enjoyed his time with these beautiful creatures.
Some of Wayne’s hobbies included bowling at Woodman Lanes, fishing, and rooting on his favorite sports teams. He loved fishing on Lake Cumberland and Dale Hollow. Just recently, he was at Lake Erie fishing with several buddies. Wayne was known for always wearing his tan Bass Pro Shop ball cap. He was always a die-heart, lifelong fan of the Cincinnati Reds, Bengals, and The Ohio State University. He was an even bigger fan when they were winning, but if they were losing, he gained the nickname “Mr. Negative.” He was an avid collector of almost everything but had a sweet spot for collecting ’50s music records. TV westerns were his favorite, and he could quote nearly all of Gunsmoke. His passion for travel came later in life with his wife, Elaine, and the rest of his family. Some of his most memorable vacations were to Hawaii, Las Vegas, and Gatlinburg. Among many things, he will be remembered for the love and pride he had for his family. He looked forward to any excuse to have the family come together, whether it was a birthday, holiday, or any other event.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barb Sharpe; parents, Chester and Opal Sharpe; one brother, James Sharpe; and one sister, Beverly Rudy. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Elaine; one son, Joseph (Gina) Sharpe; one daughter, Lora (Tom Noe) Sharpe; one stepson, Adam (Nicole) Lawson; one stepdaughter, Tammy (John) Chavies; four grandchildren, Kristi (Tim) Watkins, Jami (Josh) Valind, Casie (James) Baker, and Heather (Tyler) Jones; seven step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Deb (Don) McCuiston; and two cousins, Alan and Carol Channell.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Monday, August 7, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. The family will receive friends 11 AM - 1 PM Monday at the funeral home. If desired, contributions may be made to City Gospel Mission, 1805 Dalton Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45214, www.citygospelmission.org. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.
