Wilma J. Nagel's Obituary
Nagel, Wilma J., age 89, of Waynesville, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at her residence.
Wilma, a woman whose wit, warmth, and unwavering love touched the lives of all who knew her, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy rich in family, hard work, and unforgettable traditions.
Wilma dedicated over a decade of her life to Portamedic in Dayton. Her professional journey also included a certification as a Medical Technologist and work as a skilled phlebotomist at St. Elizabeth Hospital, where her steady hands and compassionate nature brought comfort to many.
Outside of her career, Wilma found joy in the simple, soulful rhythms of life. A lifelong gardener and canner, she spent countless hours nurturing plants and preserving nature's bounty, often turning it into delicious meals that became family favorites. Her kitchen was a place of fond memories, where the scent of beef steak pie, hearty vegetable soup, beef noodles using red noodles and a tomato sauce, and roast beef with yellow rice told stories of love and tradition.
An avid reader and romantic at heart, Wilma adored books and recordings about love stories. She had a deep appreciation for life’s emotional depth and a mischievous streak that made her ornery in the best of ways, quick with a sarcastic comment or a witty remark that could bring laughter to those around her. Yet beneath the humor was a deeply compassionate, progressive, and accepting woman who welcomed everyone as they were.
Wilma’s love for her family was the pride of her life. She cherished every moment spent with her children and grandchildren, creating traditions they’ll treasure forever: Easter egg hunts and dinners at her home, festive Christmas gatherings featuring family members dressed as Santa, and weekend adventures at Indian Lake—boating, camping, and basking in the joy of togetherness.
Wilma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ronald, in 1992; her parents, Russell and Magdalene Armstrong; two brothers, Robert “Bob” and Jack Armstrong; and two sisters, Luann Armstrong and Kathy Williams. She is survived by one son, Ron Nagel; one daughter, Ruth Ann Collins; granddaughter, Jodee Nagel-Hunter (Angela); great-granddaughter, Madelynn; one brother, Ron Armstrong; sister-in-law, Kathy Nagel; and Wilma’s nephew and caregiver, Paul Dozier.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday, June 4, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. A celebration of life service will follow the visitation at 11 AM on Thursday June 5 at the funeral home, with Chaplain Mitch Pollic officiating. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
