Hello, my name is Ava. I am the niece of Ashley’s longtime boyfriend and friend, Erik, and the granddaughter of Mary and Ed.
I remember meeting Ashley when I was very very young; around four years old. I remember her being able to cheer me up and having so much fun around her. She was always so sweet, bubbly, and kind, and she had the kindest smile.
She accompanied us on a trip to Disneyland in 2011 and we all had so much fun. We still have all the pictures.
But my favorite memory of Ashley has always stuck with me. One day, she approached me and handed me a beautiful music box. It had a unicorn on the top and beautiful carousels painted on the sides. She had told me that it was the first toy she had ever been given by her family and that she had wanted me to have it, to think of her and Erik whenever I was sad, and to keep being kind. I still have the music box and whenever I see it, I am reminded of Ashley.
We all miss Ashley very much. She was wonderful. God bless! <3
I am so sorry for your loss. I went to Springboro High School with Ashley and remember being in lunch and sometimes she was in my study hall.
I am now the proud parent of a 15 year old son who also happens to have Down syndrome. When he was a baby, I often thought back to my days at SHS and seeing the joy Ashley brought to others.

I first knew Ashley as a student in 8th grade at Springboro Jr. High. From the moment we met, she melted my heart with her friendly personality and bright smile. Ashley was always so excited to see me, as she was most everyone else. At times in class, she would become upset, and no one knew why. But she was swarmed with friends who consoled her until she cheered up. Ashley was never at a loss for friends. At one homecoming dance or prom, Dr. Malone and I were dancing. We noticed Ashley nearby, so Dr. Malone asked if she’d care to dance. She was thrilled! The smile never left her face till the dance was over! It was a memorable moment for the three of us. In later years, Ron and I would see Ashley working at Centerville Wendy’s. As soon as she’d spot us, she’d blush and smile shyly. Then she’d slip quickly from behind the counter to give us a hug and say hi. I am grateful for having known Ashley and that she brightened my life for so many years. Condolences to you, Mr. & Mrs. Bowers. What a beautiful daughter God blessed you with. 💗
