Charles James "Jim" Carter's Obituary
CARTER, Charles James “Jim”, age 93, of Waynesville, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at Xenia Health and Rehab.
Jim honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a carpenter for over 30 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the local Carpenter Union. After officially retiring, he became a full-time farmer, mostly in cattle and grain. Every year, he would have a huge garden filled with tomatoes, turnips, and sweet corn. When it was time to harvest, he would give it all away to his family, friends, and neighbors. He loved helping anyone that was in need and was always dependable, if you needed him he was always there for you.
He had an ornery personality and enjoyed going out to dinner with his friends. Over the years, he had created a collection of Indian relics and antiques. With his wife’s help, he would refurbish old antiques and make them look beautiful again. Being family-oriented, after his wife passed in 1984, he made it a point to continue the family traditions surrounding the holidays. He would go all out, including cooking a huge meal for everyone. The most important part about this tradition was that the whole family was spending time together. Among many things, he will be remembered for how proud he was of his kids and grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda; parents, Alonzo and Cordelia Carter; and 15 siblings, Macey Carey, Elsie Davis, Mary Ellen Lacy, Daisy Allread, Raymond Carter, Margie Carter, Joe Carter, Marion Carter, Martha Hoffer, Glen Carter, Robert Carter, Billy Carter, and two infant siblings. He is survived by his two sons, Bryant Keith Carter and Kent (Yvonne) Carter; one daughter, Kelly (Ronnie Roach) Carter; four grandchildren, Matt (Carrie) Senter, Mike (Katie) Senter, Mitch (Tyra) Senter, and Lenzi Carter (Mike Gorman); nine great-grandchildren; four sisters, Pauline Martin, Alice Morris, Donna Greene, and Jane Masters; and his good friend, Mary Jane Gallagher.
A graveside service will be at 2 PM on Monday, March 3, at Miami Cemetery in Corwin. Pastor Joe Robinette will be officiating. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family. If desired, contributions may be made to Ohio Valley Hospice. Condolences are at www.stubbsconner.com.
