George Edward Wentler's Obituary
WENTLER, George Edward, age 86, of Waynesville, Ohio, and formerly of Parsons, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family members at home.
George was born in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, to George Charles and Mary Ann (Carruthers) Wentler. He found the love of his life, Chris, and were married in 1958. He earned a PhD in Chemistry, which led to a distinguished career with Procter & Gamble across business sectors in Cincinnati, Ohio, Norwich, New York, and London, England.
He was a member of the Olive Branch Church of Warren County, A Global Methodist Church, who had a strong faith and lived by it. George would reassure others by telling them to “keep the faith” or “there is always hope.” He lived by “The Golden Rule” - to treat others as one would want to be treated. He was someone who could always be counted on and treated others with respect. He was well-known and liked as an advisor (when asked) and an all-around problem solver. George’s quick wit and kindness were appreciated by many.
He had a strong moral compass which guided the family. Family was most important to George. While working, it was understood by staff, should his family call, he would drop everything to talk to them. Among many things, he will always be remembered for the pride and love he had for his wife, daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren.
It should be noted that at the age of 23, George built his and Chris’ first home with nothing more than a hammer, level, triangle, saw, and shovel. George had a love and respect for nature and the environment. His gardening prowess was almost legendary (100 tomato plants was not uncommon). He enjoyed tending to the many gardens and sharing the produce with friends, family, and strangers who would “shop” freely. Fishing, mushrooming, and deer hunting were favorite pastimes enjoyed by George. He had an appreciation for classical, country & western music.
George was preceded in death by his parents, George Charles Wentler and Mary Ann (Carruthers) Wentler, and two brothers, Cloyde Wentler and Lloyd Wentler. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 67 years, Chris; three daughters, Chrisbell (Robert) Bednar, Mary Beth (Scott) Bryant, and Georgia Lynn (David) Kauffman; two grandchildren, Tobias Kauffman and Catlyn Kauffman; one brother, Donald (Alicia) Wentler; five sisters, Jean (Lenord) Lindgens, Virginia (Clyde) Murphy, Mary Edith Wentler, Echo (Gary) Reeves, and Sandra (George) Colombo; and numerous nieces and nephews. In total, George is survived by over 550 relatives.
Funeral services will be 11 am Monday, March 3, 2025, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Reverend David Stephens and Reverend Cindie Mash Price will be officiating. Burial will be at Miami Cemetery in Corwin. The family will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm on Sunday, March 2 at the funeral home. If desired, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Springer School and Center, 2121 Madison Rd, Cincinnati, Ohio 45208 (springer-Id.org). Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
