Mary Louise Read's Obituary
READ, Mary Louise, age 80, of Blue Ash and formerly of Loveland, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Arden Courts Kenwood.
Mary graduated from Seven Mile High School, class of ’61. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Wilmington College, and earning her master’s degree from Miami University was one of the highlights of her professional career. Teaching second grade was a dream job for Mary. She cherished the memories she made with the children. After teaching second grade for 25 years, she retired from Goshen School District. Upon retiring, she had a big retirement party where many family members and friends came to celebrate her beautiful years of work and the next chapter of her life. She was very proud to be considered a mentor to numerous other teachers.
Her family was her pride and joy. With an extremely caring personality, she constantly thought about others and how she could help them. She was the social planner for the entire family. It became a family tradition to rotate who would host the big Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter holidays. Halloween was one of her favorite holidays as her kids were growing up. She brought out her creative side this holiday because she would make her kids’ costumes. One of her favorite hobbies was reading romance novels. She also enjoyed shopping at TJ Maxx and going out to lunch. Over the years, she traveled a lot with her husband, Dave. Some of their adventures included Italy, France, Spain, Germany, England, Belize, Canada, and a bundle of places around the United States. Her favorite destination was Italy, and she even kept a picture of the two of them in Italy on her nightstand. She had a collection of Hummel figurines brought back from Europe and found at little shops around the United States. Dave was a fantastic caregiver for Mary. He was very patient and kind and gave her the best life possible. Among many things, she will be remembered for her love and pride in her children, her husband, and her favorite sister.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Charlotte Earhart. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, David “Dave”; her two sons, Matthew Read (Jill Patton) and Ryan (Jennifer) Read; her one daughter, Marisa (Simon) Fairchild; five grandchildren, Dustin, Rachael, Ashley, Emelia, and Sophia; one sister, Ellen Campbell; and two nephews, Terry Gadd (Sherry) and Michael Gadd.
The family will receive friends from 11 AM – 1 PM on Thursday, October 19, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Immediately following at 1 PM will be a memorial service, also at the funeral home. Life Celebrant Katie Mackoway will be officiating. Burial will be at Somerville Cemetery in Somerville, Ohio. If desired, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
