Steve "Goose" (Stephen) Hiatt's Obituary
Steve Hiatt, 66, of Waynesville, Ohio, went to Heaven on Thursday, May 9, at Miami Valley South Hospital following his journey/battle with lung cancer. Roxie, Matt, and Brandon were with him as he peacefully went to Jesus.
Stephen Patrick Hiatt was born June 13, 1957, in Greenville, Ohio, to Pat and Phyllis (Isenbarger) Hiatt. He graduated from Versailles High School in 1975 and received a degree in band instrument repair from Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City, Iowa, in 1979.
He married Roxanne “Roxie” Stahl on October 20, 1979. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Matt and Brandon. Steve enjoyed hunting and fishing with Matt and watching Brandon play football. He found great joy in being a husband, dad, father-in-law, and grandpa (“Papaw”). Being with his sons and their families was a favorite thing.
Steve loved his family and friends. He loved to “piddle” in his garage, whether fixing something for himself, friends/neighbors, or inventing something. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, just being outdoors. Steve worked as a band instrument repairman at McCutcheon’s Music from 2009 until retiring in 2020. He also worked as a tool maker at Precision Gage and Tool from 1980 to 2009. Steve became a Christian in 1994 and was baptized on August 27, 1995.
Steve is survived by his wife, Roxanne (Roxie), of 44 years of marriage; two sons, Matt (Rhonda) and Brandon (Hannah); granddaughter, Lauren (Matt/Rhonda); grandson, Landon (Brandon/Hannah); his sister, Colleen Marchal (Greenville, Ohio); step-mom, Joan Hiatt; sisters-in-law, Rolene Beauvais and Rochelle Thies (both of Iowa); niece and nephews; and numerous family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his nephew, Adam Marchal; and his brothers-in-law, Randy Thies and Tom Beauvais.
Steve will be remembered as a loving husband, dad, father-in-law, grandpa (“papaw”), and a friend who was always willing to lend a helping hand.
The family will receive friends from 12 PM to 2 PM on Thursday, May 16, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at 2 PM, with Cornelious Hancock officiating. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to the Springboro Baptist Church in Steve's memory. Condolences may be made to the family at www.stubbsconner.com.
